Exploring a more egalitarian way of learning and moving vastly away from a top-down approach, participants will form a supportive learning community where both no-one and everyone has the answers. I am interested in practice / performance as research and a collaborative effort in exploring the concepts.
More precisely, we will be going through a design process, with the focus on creating a garment that explores armour / self-preservation / PPE and queer nightlife.
The course is mixed format: online and correspondence and is participant driven.
This course is for:
LGBTQIA+ individuals or allies who have experience or knowledge of fashion.
LGBTQIA+ or allied individuals with basic or intermediate sewing/crafting skills
Those with some experience of working in costume, fashion, garmet/accessory production, sculpture, live & performance art, drag
A workshop-seminar will initiate our research on self-preservation, armor, self-expression through nightlife, and MORE.
Participants source materials for the designs but also receive equal:
- Small honorarium to purchase necessary items
- Base material for design
- Links to necessary research materials
There will then be time for construction and development of the physical garment before a visual evaluation.
The course will include queer critique our design processes.
